Frequently Asked Questions About Singapore PR
When considering a PR application, there might be several questions that you might ask before applying. Here are the most commonly asked questions and answers.

Answer. You are eligible if you belong to one of these categories.

Question: How many PR applications are approved every year?
Answer: From the years 2008 to 2010, there was a sharp decline in the number of approved PRs from 79,167 to 29,265 due to a decision by the Singapore government to reduce the number of PRs. Since the decline, the number of approved applicants average out to be around 29,000 every year.
Question: Is a cover letter necessary in my application?
Answer: A cover letter is not a mandatory document to submit. However it is highly advised as it will help in strengthening your application and differentiating you and your contributions from the rest of the applicants.
Question: Are there any obligations to fulfil after obtaining Singapore PR?
Answer: For young Singaporean and PR males, you will be required to serve the mandatory 2 years of National Service in the military. You will also be required to make monthly contributions to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) which can be utilised for various purposes in the near future.
Question: How long do I have to stay / work in Singapore before I am eligible to apply?
Answer: There is no minimum length of stay / work before you are eligible to apply, however it is highly advisable to have at least 6 months of working experience to build up on your integration and social contributions before applying.
Question: What are the eligibility criteria for foreign students applying for PR?
Answer: You must have resided in Singapore for at least 2 years and passed a national exam (PSLE, ‘N’ / ‘O’ / ‘A’ level) or be in the Integrated Programme (IP).
Question: Is it better to apply as an individual or with my spouse or family?
Answer: It is highly advisable to apply as a family if you have unmarried children below the age of 21, or together with your spouse as a sponsor.
Question: Do I stand a better chance of approval if I hold an Employment Pass compared to an S Pass?
Answer: While Employment Pass holders do possess higher skills and expertise that may be in demand, it is not necessarily the case that they will stand a better chance.
