How to Submit an Appeal if your Singapore PR Application is Rejected

Can you appeal against a Singapore PR application rejection? Yes you can.

You can appeal the rejection of your application within 6 months from the date of the rejection. This 6 months, which is your application appeal window period.

Before the 17th of December 2017, applicants for Singapore PR had to wait out the entire 6 months before re-applying. However, under the new online submission system, you may choose not to appeal, and instead go for a re-application.

Strengthening your Singapore PR Rejection Appeal

When submitting an appeal to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to request for a reconsideration of your Permanent Residency application, it is always better to support your appeal letter with relevant supporting documents backing up your appeal claims.

Also, it is highly advisable to avoid mentioning that you would like to stay in Singapore due to its cleanliness, good economy, and other reasons on why you enjoy being in Singapore as the ICA is already well aware of this and probably receives these types of letters all the time. Rather, to submit a powerful appeal and increase your chances of successful reconsideration, you should focus your appeal letter on:

1. Your activities that show you are well-integrated into the Singaporean society;
2. How you and your family are rooted in Singapore (Relatives who are PRs/Citizens, children doing well in school, time spent in Singapore, etc);
3. Your achievements towards your employer and your work;
4. Your future plans should your application be successfully reconsidered (Intent to apply for Citizenship, Setting up a company, etc);
5. Other factors you feel will showcase your integration into Singapore.

“This is why we prioritize not only those who can contribute, but those who are also prepared to sink roots in Singapore, and can integrate well here.” - Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs
